Veterans In Politics- Season 2, Episode 6 with Crispin Blunt MP
Crispin Blunt MP was commissioned as an Army Officer into the 13th/18th Royal Hussars (Queen Mary's Own) and served until 1990. During the 1980s, he served in Cyprus, Germany and Britain before entering Parliament.
This episode is full of very personal insight and we thank Crispin for his honesty. From recalling the impact of struggling with his sexuality his whole life, to living under the constant threat of outing-by-the-press, Crispin has become a campaigner on a whole range of LGBTQ+ issues.
Our host Jonny even asks him about his famous 'poppers' speech he gave against his own government in Parliament, and this leads to wider discussions around drug reform and the criminal justice system, a subject he knows a lot about given his previous role as Prisons' Minister.
This podcast series maintains its independence and features several parties in this series.
